Not more work, you think. It’s Christmas Eve; we’re in the moment of anticipation, celebration and relief. But remember how we traditionally send ourselves out from the evening service with the words of Howard Thurman: that after the Christmas story has been told and celebrated; “when the shepherds are back with their flock, the work of Christmas begins.” It’s a Christmas list that begins “To find the lost, to heal the broken….” and concludes “to make music in the heart.” This morning we pause and unwrap the gift of the work of Christmas so that the ongoing work does begin and our hearts sing. Now that’s a real Merry Christmas.
