As we enter into yet another political season in our highly partisan world, what gifts might we as people of faith, as Unitarian Universalists, offer? Join me in exploring how our unique faith community might offer us the tools for navigating this season, and even for leading others to engage rather than “dispute loud and long.”
This, I think, is the challenge we face in every endeavor to make our world, not just a better place, but one that will even be around for more than a few generations to come. This is it.
I am so in accord with Judith’s naming this challenge. And, I am also very aware that try as I may, I myself have not yet developed the degree of skill required to listen to and engage with those who differ in their perspectives in the way that is needed. I would deeply wish that we might here at the UUFH begin to create intentional opportunities to learn and practice and hone these skills as individuals, and then to use them within groups that meet for all purposes, introducing and demonstrating them when possible to the congregation as a whole. Maybe then we could then begin to support each other in practicing this kind of engagement with those outside our congregation and use them in ways that might make a difference in our larger community. How do we start?
