Presently, I serve on the Social Justice Outreach Team and helped with the Green Sanctuary Accreditation. It’s been a fun experience working with different segments of the congregation on green projects over the past three years! We will be addressing Ethical Eating this year as a continuation of our green efforts, a topic that is near and dear to UUA, and one I hope we can generate some enthusiasm for over the coming year.
I’m on the Worship Team and help with services from time to time. I love working with the speakers and minister, all of whom are inspiring in so many ways!
In the past I have chaired the canvass several times and found it both challenging and rewarding. Most recently, I have returned to the Board as Vice President. I’m excited about working on future plans for our congregation. Do we want to keep or sell the Brevard property? Do we want to add on to our campus? The Board has already done a lot of the groundwork for addressing these questions and will be bringing these possibilities to the congregation before too long.
I believe with all my heart that having a UU presence in the community has made a difference in the Hendersonville area. Just look at all the folks from our congregation who volunteer for social justice issues. And I know we could be doing even more, so I plan to continue to do what I can to help make that difference.
I have tried to follow the old Methodist saying that Hillary Clinton made famous: “Do all the good you can, for all the people you can, in all the ways you can, as long as ever you can.”
