Phyllis and “Skip” Sheldon joined UUFH in 2000. They were invited by friends, Paul and Simone Shoemaker, to come “take a look.” Seventeen years later, the Sheldon’s are seldom missing at Sunday services. You’ll see Phyllis on the first row of the choir, and Skip generally sits at the back near the door to help late arrivals.
They moved to Brevard in 1970, from Wilmington, DE, where Skip was employed by The DuPont Company developing new products, including Corian. At the Brevard plant, he worked in direct manufacturing supervision, maintenance engineering, and process engineering. He helped develop and build new machines for film finishing operations. Skip also was involved in film finishing operations in developing countries, and holds two US patents related to that work. After retiring in 1988, Skip established a small consulting company, taught at Brevard College, and volunteered. He now leads a crew that builds and maintains trails on the Appalachian Trail and the NC Mountain to the Sea Trail.
Skip has helped develop one of UUFH’s five-year strategic plans, has chaired the Endowment Committee, been chairman of the Finance Committee, and has served as the Fellowship’s treasurer for the past four years.
Phyllis contributes home-baked goodies for various events held at UU, and assists at Memorial Services. Thank you, Skip and Phyllis, for your gifts to us all.
