Growing up in Pittsburgh, Christmas in our household was what many would consider a traditional affair. On Christmas Eve, we placed angel decorations on the tree with words like “Hope” and “Peace” written on them. Then it was off to the candlelight service at our church. After returning home, we sat by the fire drinking copious amounts of eggnog that mom served up with her wonderful homemade cookies. These activities might sound average or unremarkable, but they hold great meaning for me.
It was also a time of giving. Our parents helped us to see that it was a wonderful opportunity to make this special time of year about more than presents. We would bake cookies and take gifts and visit families that seemed genuinely grateful for our attention. I think it helped instill in us a joy of not only getting but giving.
The holiday season is a time to reflect on the whole year, a time of renewal and hope, of giving, helping, and sharing, but most of all, love! Keep a warm heart and spread the joy around you!
In the spirit of Love,
