We do not yet know the damage that will be done to social justice issues under the new administration. Per the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, “we must focus, even more sharply than before, on our commitment to the deeply held principles and values that are now so relentlessly under siege—justice, equality, and human rights.” You can participate and join the Team at our next meeting on December 7th at 6:30 PM in Fellowship Hall.
Thanks to your generous Outreach Collection donations, more than $3,400 has been donated to UUSC for their Hurricane Matthew relief efforts in Haiti.
At our October meeting, the Social Justice Team approved two donations to local organizations using funds from the 10% holdback from past Outreach Collections. The first was for $300 to the Interfaith Assistance Ministry Capital Campaign, which will be recognized with a commemorative paver. The second donation was for $200 to Blue Ridge Community Health to purchase blankets for migrant workers.
In our ongoing support of refugees, we recently connected with a group in Brevard raising money for a literacy program called Mommy and Me. If you wish to donate, please make your check payable to the parent organization, Friends of Refugees, and write “RFL – books” in the memo line. Mail your check to Bobby King at 235 Little Egypt Rd., Brevard, N.C. 28712.
