We have a great Action Sunday planned for all RE ages!
AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer Stephanie Gilliam, from Housing Assistance Corporation and Henderson County Young Leaders Program, will facilitate the first part of a youth engagement curriculum that she is developing titled Y-NOT: Youth Navigating Our Tomorrow.
Y-NOT focuses on increasing youth engagement in the issues faced by our community, particularly items that are of importance to our elders, and to farmworkers.
For the first part of Y-NOT, youth are photojournalists, spending a week taking pictures of a part of the community that they identify as important.
This Sunday, we will discuss the parts of a community and select a subject to focus on for the week.
Each child will receive a disposable camera to record their focus photos.
The cameras will be returned in a week for developing the film, or families can develop the film themselves and bring back the prints.
In a few weeks on February 16 we will work together to create a presentation about the web of community using the photos that the youth provide.
These activities are intended to increase youth awareness of the complexity and interrelation of our communities.
We hope you can all join us for this fun and interesting Action Sunday!
