It explains the concept of one human family using Jewish, Christian, and Muslim sources. The point is that these traditions are so similar on certain matters that all of them can be part of such an explanation of a basic principle in our faith traditions. I believe that the three Abrahamic faiths – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are three aspects of one faith.
During this service, Rabbi Bentley shares this Hebrew:
- וְאָהַבְתָּ לְרֵעֲךָ כָּמוֹךָ – “You shall love your fellow as yourself” – It is pronounced: ve-a-hav-ta le-re-a-cha ka-mo-cha.
About Rabbi Phillip Bentley
Rabbi Bentley has been writing about Judaism and contemporary issues (peace, environment, human rights, etc.) for almost 50 years, and has published several articles and papers on these subjects. He currently is retired as Senior Scholar at Agudas Israel Congregation. He has served on the on the boards of several communal organizations and NGOs, including the Jewish Peace Fellowship which he chaired 1988-98. In retirement he is active in local justice and interfaith organizations. He has helped plan several interfaith peace conferences at Lake Junaluska. Rabbi Bentley is married and has two sons and a grandson.
