Most of us want to be of service to others, but it’s not always easy to tell when or how we can best do that. “Helping” has pitfalls and may do more harm than good. It could be that sometimes the best we can do for one another is take care of ourselves – but when that’s absolutely critical isn’t always so evident or easy. Today’s worship explores the idea of self-care and responsibility with the assistance of a parable written by the late Rabbi Edwin Friedman.
Rev. Shore grew up in the NC Piedmont, and has lived in WNC since 2001. Before attending Meadville Lombard Theological School, she was an environmental science instructor and activist. In 2013 Rev. Shore was ordained by the UU Congregation of Asheville, has served the Thermal Belt UU Fellowship for the past two years as Consulting Minister, and recently began serving as Consulting Minister to the UU Church of Spartanburg. She and her husband have three children: two in high school and one studying in Malaysia.
