This will be the shortest day of the year. The sun begins its return, slowly and gradually, seconds at a time. Christmas comes and hope shows itself again. We celebrate and re-establish life and light and the joy and work of Christmas to lengthen our patience, and strengthen our commitment and courage for the days of winter still to come.
