We shouldn’t seriously consider memory-wiping, but a little amnesia might go a long way toward relieving some of our own and the world’s ills. George Santayana’s oft-quoted, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” is, at best, only a half-truth. If we want to keep the past in the past, letting it go would free up a lot more resources to put into building a better tomorrow.
The Rev. Sally Beth Stone Shore grew up in the North Carolina Piedmont, and has made WNC her home since 2001. Before attending Meadville Lombard Theological School she was an environmental science instructor and activist. Sally Beth was ordained by the UU Congregation of Asheville in 2013, and has served the Thermal Belt UU Fellowship for the past two years as Consulting Minister. She recently began serving as Consulting Minister to the UU Church of Spartanburg, SC. Sally Beth and her husband have three children: two in high school and one studying in Malaysia.
