I live near Etowah in the Crystal Heights neighborhood with my husband of 29 years, Joe, and our 26-year-old son, Luke. We moved here over five years ago when Joe’s company relocated to Fletcher.

I recently retired from teaching Deaf and Hearing-Impaired students in public education but continue working in my field with local school systems, teaching listening, language, and speech to students from preschool to 12th grade.

Joe, a CPA/accountant, retired three years ago due to his disability: Parkinson’s disease and Parkinson’s disease dementia. Luke works for an Asheville computer information systems company.

Joe and I grew up near Akron, Ohio. After college, he lived in Phoenix; I lived in Louisville, KY. We “met” at our high school’s 15-year reunion; married within the next year; returned to Ohio for a while; and by the time of our 20th reunion, I was quite pregnant with Luke.

I grew up United Methodist; Joe, Byzantine Catholic. We became Lutherans, then went back to United Methodism. Currently, we are members of Etowah United Methodist Church, along with my membership in UUFH.

A dear friend in Colorado has been a UU most her life, and we think so much alike that this, and our current federal and state political mess, led me to seek refuge in Unitarian Universalism.

Hiking, kayaking, traveling, and being adventurous have been our hobbies together as a family. I also enjoy yoga, reading, artsy and/or period movies, political and environmental activism, and being around quirky individuals!
