SJOT and UUFH will again participate in the MLK Day of Service project on January 21. This annual event celebrates Dr. King through service activities in communities across the nation. The local MLK Day of Service Committee represents a group of local congregations and our new participants this year, students from Wingate University.
The Committee has plans for two events, both of which call for volunteers to serve in a variety of ways. The first activity — packaging and delivering cookies for first responders — needs bakers, packers, and delivery volunteers. Bakers should provide cookies with identity (baker and cookie type/name);
cookies should be delivered to UUFH/Charlotte Corrigan on Sunday, January 20. The second activity consists of repacking bulk purchases of beans and rice in meal packets for distribution by The Storehouse. Tasks suitable for young children and families are part of this activity.
For additional details, to donate funds (for purchase of rice/beans/packing supplies), to volunteer, and/or to provide homemade cookies, please contact Charlotte Corrigan (UUFH representative to the Committee) at hcorrigan@msn.com. This Day of Service event is also supported through a donation from the SJOT Fund as part of our Outreach actions. Donations from individual UUFH members will be added to our SJOT donation.
We hope you will join us in honoring Dr. King’s legacy.
