April 27th is the beginning of Holocaust Remembrance Week. We are partnering with Agudas Israel Congregation for the events of the week. On Sunday at 2 pm there will be a Holocaust Remembrance Service at the synagogue with a special exhibit opening for viewing afterwards.
On Monday, April 28 beginning at 6pm there will be an opportunity for our youth to attend a lecture titled “My Escape from Poland” given by Rubin Feldstein. Rubin left Poland in 1938 with his family and made his way to Wisconsin. His talk chronicles his entire journey across the ocean with his family. It will be told from the perspective of a six year old and will be appropriate for children nine years old or older. The invitation to this event was given to our RE Program from Rabbi Cohen. Vicki is hopeful that as many of you as possible will attend this event. Please let her know if you will be attending.
The exhibit “Faces of Resistance – Women in the Holocaust” will also be open for viewing at this time. This exhibit follows the lives of 32 women, exploring the human aspects of women and their lives in the ghettos, camps, woods and rescue operations while constantly under the threat of annihilation.
The second exhibit “From Shoah to the Mountains” will also be available for viewing. This exhibit speaks of the lives of men and women who survived Hitler’s Germany and then made their way to Western North Carolina. The exhibit includes photos and the stories of these individuals and a great deal of additional information.
