UUFH supports the Feed the Kids (FTK) Coalition’s efforts with our donations and volunteer hours. As half of one of six teams, we serve a nutritious meal on Friday afternoons about eight times per school year to 300 or so members of the Hendersonville Boys and Girls Club. Our Team #3 meals are prepared at the Trinity Presbyterian Church kitchen by our teammates from Trinity and Agudus Israel. That’s a lot of meals and volunteers (40 from UUFH).
After a successful pilot program this Spring led by FTK Board member, Peggy Law, FTK will launch a new FLEX lunch program to serve lunch to about 100 elementary school age members during their year-round school break periods. Team #3 “servers” are scheduled to prep and serve Sloppy Joes to the kids on September 26th. Team #3’s “cooks” are scheduled to prep and serve hot dogs on September 20th, and may need a few UUFH volunteers to supplement their roster.
If you are interested in either the Flex lunch program or the regular school year program, contact Charlotte Corrigan or Peggy Law.
You’re welcome to see us in action as an observer at one of our meals. As any of the Team #3 volunteers will tell you, the work is not that hard and the kids are an absolute joy. Their thanks and smiling faces are our reward.
