Last month, I started a “where are they now” segment in my column to update our congregation on where some of the youth who graduated from our RE Program are now. These names will take you all back a bit.  

 Cosmo Pernie has just been accepted into the Masters of Computer Science at NC State.  

 Aaron Pernie is attending UNC Asheville.

 Oliver Pernie is a rising senior at UNC Asheville.

 Grayton Cloos is presently teaching English in Taiwan.

 My son, Sean, is teaching Social Studies at Flat Rock Middle School.

 My son, Bradley, is a geologist with a small oil company in Texas.

We are proud of our youth who have graduated, and love to see “All the Places They Will Go!” More updates to come next month!

Thrivent/Habitat Build – July 2
Our project this month will be to make up a Family Tool Box. Every home needs a basic tool kit, and this will be a nice welcome gift for the family who will live in the home we are helping to build. We ask that each family bring one tool to put in a Tool Box for the new family. I will post a sign-up sheet for which tool you would like to bring. All members of the congregation are welcome to participate in this project!

Little Library Installation – July 9
The UU Congregation of Asheville has made up some Little Libraries that they are installing in Asheville. My friend contacted me to see if we would like to partner with them to put one in a migrant camp in Hendersonville. On July 9, it will be installed. We will help to keep it stocked with books in both English and Spanish.  

Service Project at Carl Sandburg Home – July 9
Once again, we have the opportunity to volunteer at the Carl Sandburg Home. We will meet at the Goat Barn at 10:30am.We’ll be assigned tasks in the barn and fenced-in area, like we did last time. After, we’ll gather for a picnic. Hope everyone can join us! I will send out more info closer to the date.

Soul Matter Potluck and Conversation for Families – July 14
Sometimes your joy is the source of your smile, but sometimes your smile can be the source of your joy- (Thich Nhat Hanh). Since there is no Soul Matters theme for July we will use June’s Theme, Joy. Join us on Friday, July 14, at 6:00pm in Fellowship Hall for a Potluck and Conversation. Our question to ponder for this discussion is… When was the last time you chose joy? Bring a dish to share and your place-settings. Childcare will be provided during the conversation. Jim will be on vacation so I will be leading the conversation.

Yard Sale Moving Day – July 16
After Social Hour we need all hands on deck to help us move the donations from the Log Cabin and the office to Fellowship Hall. Please volunteer to help us put up tables and get everything moved for the beginning of set-up.

Yard Sale Volunteers Needed – July 16-July 22
Volunteers are needed throughout the week to organize and price items, help at the sale, and for cleanup. Contact Sandy McGlashan, 693-3157.

Tubing on Davidson River – July 30
Join us for a fun day floating down the river in an inner tube. We will meet at 10:30am at the Davidson River Tubing Company at the entrance to Pisgah Forest. UUFH will cover the tube rental. Please bring a picnic lunch. We hope to see you there. I will send a sign-up sheet closer to the event.
