Our building and landscaping are what our visitors see first. Who creates our beautiful outdoor space?Kahlil Gibran says, “Work is love made visible.” At UUFH that work is done by our Landscape Committee, co-chaired for several years by Chuck Elston and Neal Andreae. Stalwart members are Liz Curtis and Joe Robustelli, and Bonnie Arbuckle has been the de facto chair and guiding inspiration.

In June, Polly Simmons, representing the Visibility Task Force, toured the UUFH campus and suggested “enhancement” projects for the summer. Most of these have been acted upon. They included removal of overgrown shrubs and extensive pruning throughout the campus; this was completed by Marion Bradford and his truck, Liz Curtis, Chuck Elston, Joe Robustelli, and Polly and Russell Simmons. Ongoing weeding of the rain garden, parking lot islands, and beds has taken place. Eight loads of debris were carried away in Chuck’s 1992 red pick-up (please offer healing thoughts if you spot the truck at UUFH). Mucho mulch has been distributed.

Weekly tasks are done by the “Fearsome Foursome”: Chuck Elston, Neal Andreae, Galen Carland (the newest member of the team), and Joe Robustelli. New team members are most welcome, encouraged, and needed. Master gardeners and those who “follow the elephants in the parade” work as a group on weekday mornings or alone on special projects. The skills, interests, and schedules of new members can be accommodated! Call Chuck or email the office if you want to share in “love made visible.” (Note: Joe Robustelli chairs a task force considering further enhancements to our campus.)

“Who Does What” is a new series of articles recognizing the contributions members make to UUFH. The Membership Committee has initiated this as a way to foster volunteerism and provide an avenue for
increased membership satisfaction.
