Tradition and Trust. For many people who come to Unitarian Universalism, part of the journey has been about the business of throwing off tradition, i.e. throwing out “the rules and ritual that limit what we think and who we love.” Yet tradition can also be about accessing wisdom, depth and connection. It can be grown and changed through experience and shared from generation to generation. “The religions of the world survive [become traditions] only when countless people are able to confirm, “yes, life is like that.” (Sharon D. Parks) As this month’s Soul Matters materials remind us, tradition can be part of our guide. Let’s make it “more than a memory.’” Let’s find its gifts.
