Outreach Collection for YOUTH HUNGER, Sunday, May 13 (Mother’s Day).
Please help local youngsters who live with food insecurity in the home. The Youth Hunger collection is split between two local organizations: Feed the Kids Coalition and the Flat Rock Backpack Program. Many within UUFH volunteer by cooking and/or serving a meal or filling a backpack with a weekend’s worth of non-perishable foods.
Feed the Kids (FTK) provides a nutritious Friday afternoon meal to children enrolled in the Hendersonville Boys and Girls Club. Servers see the children’s smiling faces and know that their efforts are appreciated. The Coalition feeds about 300 kids each Friday during the school year. That’s many thousands of meals per year.
Backpack serves children at Atkinson and Upward Elementary Schools, Flat Rock Middle School, Immaculata, and Little Red School (day care). Over 5,600 bags of food were provided in 2016-2017. Backpacks are assembled and delivered to the schools by volunteers based at St. John in the Wilderness Church.
We hope you will give generously: make a cash contribution on May 13th, or write your check to UUFH and note “Youth Hunger” in the memo line or on the envelope containing your contribution. This very important collection will remain open throughout the month of May.
You can play an important role in the future success of these incredible young people. Feeding their bodies feeds their minds.
Thank you!
